What to keep in mind when purchasing casco insurance
What to keep in mind when purchasing casco insurance
But how to enter into a casco insurance contract? Which additional covers should you choose?
Firstly, we recommend thinking about the worst-case scenario and determine what kind of help and support you would like to receive from your insurance provider in the event of an accident. Would you prefer to keep the costs minimal after an accident or are you willing to pay a higher excess for a smaller monthly payment?
Would you prefer to use a replacement car while yours is being repaired or would you be happy to use public transport?
There are other questions. In order to make things a bit easier, we have provided a detailed description of casco insurance, various additional covers and situations where we recommend adding them to your casco insurance policy.
As already mentioned, casco insurance is a type of insurance that also covers any damage caused as a result of a traffic accident to the owner who caused the accident. In addition to accidents, casco insurance insures your car against damage caused by crime and forces of nature. In reality, casco insurance includes much more.
1. BTA Road Assistance
This is an extra cover that is by default included in the casco insurance of all passenger cars and vans. BTA Road Assistance helps you in the event of unexpected failures or damage that causes the vehicle to become completely unusable or unsafe to drive in accordance with traffic regulations.For instance, when the battery is empty or you get an unexpected flat tire on the road, but also in cases where the car cannot be taken to a nearby dealership or a repair shop due to the damage. This is an additional cover that we consider so important that it is by default added to all casco insurance contracts.
2. New value insurance (for cars that are up to a year old)
New value insurance is valid in the following cases:
• since its first registration, the vehicle has been owned by a single owner or, in the case of a finance or operating lease, by a single lessee;
• the vehicle was purchased from the authorised distributor of the manufacturer;
• the first registration of the vehicle took place no more than one year ago;
• the vehicle has only been in regular use during the insurance period and its kilometrage does not exceed 30,000 km at the time of the accident.
This is also a free additional cover that does not entail any special terms or conditions or situations in which we recommend adding this when entering into a casco insurance contract. This is an additional cover that we consider important to all of our casco insurance clients.
3. Replacement vehicle insurance
When choosing this additional cover, BTA will indemnify, in the event of an insurance event, replacement car rental or public transport costs, including the costs of using rental scooters or bicycles for travelling around the city in accordance with the limit specified in the insurance policy.
This is an additional cover highly recommended to clients who require a means of transport in order to organise their normal daily life. Choosing this additional cover will give you certainty that if your car should need repairing due to a traffic accident, you can continue your normal life by driving either a rental car or using public transport, depending on your wishes.
4. Driver’s accident insurance
This is an additional cover, in which case BTA will insure any damage caused in relation to the bodily injury, trauma, disability or death of the driver of the insured vehicle as a result of an insured event. While casco insurance only covers car-related costs in the case of an accident, choosing this additional cover also insures the person driving the car. This means that in the event of an accident, the driver can focus on making a quick recovery without worrying about possible additional costs it may entail.
5. Loss adjustment without excess
This is an additional cover that indemnifies one insurance event per insurance period without applying excess if the traffic accident involved two vehicles and the accident has been registered and fixed in accordance with law.
We recommend this additional cover to clients who do not consider the initial insurance premium being as small as possible to be important. On the other hand, it gives you, for a small extra fee, the knowledge that in the event of an accident, you do not need to pay an excess, which is at least around a couple of hundred euros.
6. Repair of the vehicle at a dealership authorised by the manufacturer
In the event of an accident, clients who have chosen this additional cover can have their insured vehicle repaired at a dealership authorised by the manufacturer with new spare parts. We recommend this additional cover to clients who wish to have their car repaired at the dealership of a certain car manufacturer in the event of an accident.
